Fiordiligy - 12 Ton Sloop

Having owned and loved Fiordiligy for
over 10 years, present circumstances regretfully dictate that I need to
find a new caring owner. Built in 1967, Fio is in excellent fettle and
is fully kitted out for long distance comfortable cruising, with all
necessary safety and navigation equipment, EPIRB, liferaft, gps, radar
etc. Vital statistics: Length 37 ft., Beam 11 ft. Draught 1.5 metres.
This year’s summer trip took her from Milford Haven up the West coast
of Wales, England and Scotland as far as Tobermory, then South via
Islay down the East coast of Ireland and back across the Irish Sea, to
her summer mooring in Dale, Milford Haven. From the 1st October she
will be in her winter berth at Milford Marina.
An opportunity to own an excellent example of a 12 tonner for £25000 or

'Spray'
I
currently own Spray, which I believe was the first motor launch built
by Hillyard in 1925, so something of a key boat in the Hillyard story..
It appears to have been commissioned for naval use during
WWII.
It is now unused and ashore [near Plymouth] and I am keen
to sell it, not least to avoid an historic boat falling beyond repair.
Spray is a 30’ launch with 2 berths and cockpit space for
about 10. It was in commission until last year, and the engine
[now a Nanni diesel] was substantially rebuilt just 4-5 years
ago. However the exterior needs tlc – the deck needs some
resealing, there are probably a couple of planks to replace and
brightwork needs revarnishing. It needs some time by a
person with basic boat maintenance skills to bring it back to sound use
but I’m not aware that there is anything substantially wrong.
I wonder if, through your association networks, you could
alert anyone who may be interested in viewing Spray with a view to
buying at a realistic ‘quick sale’ price.
Some recent photos are attached for information.

"Anne" - 4 Ton

Hello all Hillyard - enthusiasts
Next to my Vertue in Kampen (Netherlands) there is a very nice and
clean 4-to Hillyard "Anne" ( 6,50 x 2,20 x 1,10 m) to be seen and for
sale. She is afloat, but in need of painting and caulking. She is
empty, her joinery had been taken out, but is to 75 % existing and
could easily be reinstalled. Her plankwork is pitchpine and is sound.
From the inside she is very clean.
There
is a 7 hp 2-stroke Vire engin to be installed. "Anne" has a nice good
teakdeck and mahogany- superstructure.
She is gaff rigged with bouwsprit and as-new sails. Mast, gaff
and gig varnished and in good order, also all her rigging. The hatches
are as new. There is some work to be done to the small deep cockpit,
i.e. the cockpit sole.
All together: after the words of the head Mr. Bakker of the renowned
"Kroes" boatyard, where "Anne" is moored, during winter ashore under
cover, "Anne" is absolutely sound, but needs some reconditioning.
"Anne" is owned by the Kroes- yard. They ask 3000 Euro, which means
about 2.600 British pounds or maybe a bit less, a bargain indeed.
Please contact Mr. Bakker (www.kroesbootbouwers.nl , there you will see
the advertisement under "te koop" together with 3 fotos of "Anne"). His
mail address: kroesbootbouwers@gmail.com,

Singing Girl - Five Ton - In need of Help
Information has
come to
the attention of some members in the West Country that 'Singing Girl' a
five ton Hillyard, built in 1934 is being offered for free to one or
those who are prepared to take her on. She is currently on the slipway
below Brunel Bridge on the River Tamar with a sign saying 'Take for
Free'. Now we all appreciate this is no way for a manageable yacht of
this vintage to go so action is required. The association is aware that
she was restored and sailed between 1988 and 1998 and last sold to a
group of three Marine Science students from Plymouth University.
The
boat is ashore on a public hard approx. 150 yards DOWN river from the
eastern support of the Tamar railway bridge (Brunel Bridge). It is
accessed via Military Road which must be approached by car from the St
Budeaux district of Plymouth. (Access from the Tamar road crossing is
only for buses from the nearby A38).
The
boat is located just behind a little cafe adjacent to a pub (name not
to hand) -on the hard between cafe and river.

This is an opportunity to
claim a piece of maritime history and keep it

For Sale - Our cherished 1939 12 Ton Hilyard
Ketch "Lady Corinne"
A beautiful 45 foot overall double ended, carvel planked hull with
Pitch Pine planking on Oak Frames she was started in Littlehampton
in
1939 and the hull was completed before the yard turned its attention
to the war effort. During the next few years she lay in a mud
berth
where the salt water preserved her timbers until she was finished and
commissioned in 1945 She was the first boat to leave the Hilyard yard
after the war.
She has had a colourful life including many years as an RAF training
ship after being bought to replace one of the windfall yachts gained
from the Luftwaffe which was dashed on the rocks somewhere off the
French coast. We returned to Chichester last year after a 16 day
Transatlantic crossing from the Cape Verde Islands to St Lucia in the
Caribbean after which followed an extended cruise around the Islands.
The final chapter saw us enter her for the Antigua Classics in 2010
where we achieved 2nd in class and second place in the Privately
Maintained Concours de Elegance. In spite of her years this Lady
is
still turning heads - a true beauty she really is a gem and is much
admired everywhere she goes getting praise from lots of passing boats.
She has a ton of solid Douglas Fir for her main mast together
with a

Length 33ft, built in 1970
Hattie has been a great family boat. We have sailed her down
the south coast from Rye in Sussex to the Scillies. She is a very
seaworthy and comfortable boat, great for exploring the coast and
rivers and will cruise at 6 knots in most conditions. She has a long
keel with bilge plates, drawing about 1m, which makes her very
forgiving in shallow water and we have taken her up the Tamar to
Calstock, regularly up to Gweek on the Helford, explored the Scillies
and many other interesting places. Previous owners have taken her to
Greece and in the French canals as the masts can be easily lowered and
raised again on their tabernacles.
There is good headroom throughout, I am nearly 6'2" and can
stand comfortably. The bunks are a good size and the separate cabins
add convenience. There is great live aboard potential on this boat.
Hattie had a major refit in 2002 which included new
Nanni/Kubota 62hp 5cyl diesel engine, gearbox and instruments,
stainless long range fuel tank, hot water system, new keel bolts,
re-galvanising of deck fittings and new sails and covers. Since then we
have continued to maintain and improve her with new heads fore and aft,
large fresh water tank, stainless steel cooker and stainless rigging
and davits.
2009 insurance survey available.
Further details can be found on boatshed.com (http://falmouth.boatshed.com/hillyard_11_ton-boat-110316.html)
and on gweek quay and ancaster websites. She is currently moored on the
Helford river and winters in Gweek Quay.

4 TONS 1925 on trailer at Poole Dorset,
project for a brave, patient enthusiast.
Sadly, yacht a good example of prolonged neglect.
The current owner of Blink Bonnie writes;
I have a 9 ton Hillyard in need of restoration, I have had
the boat assesed by a professional wooden boat builder and he feels the
boat is well worth restoring. I have all the bits with the exception of
the mast and would be willing to pass the boat on to some one who could
complete the project. I have just taken a new job and have another boat
so I now realise I will never be able to complete the Hillyard, which
is ashore in a yard near Chichester, it seems a shame to see such a
lovely boat go to ruin, so if you know of anyone looking I would be
glad to here.
Currently ashore at Paines Boatyard at the
top of Thorney Island.

This boat has been lovingly restored, under cover, in
Cornwall, regrettably personal circumstances force me to sell prior to
completion of the internal fit.
The external restoration has been carried out to the highest
standard, with complete replacement of the wood from the Gunwales up.
Inside the woodwork has been sanded and painted and some frames
repaired, the interior has been fully painted. The hull is in excellent
condition and was fully chaulked.
The work so far includes;
New Deck, New Rubbing Strakes, New Hatch, New Windows, New
Mast, Long keel removed and shot blasted, New Gun Metal keel bolts, and
a completely renovated engine refurbished and installed by Cellar
Marine Ltd, Stern Tube and glands by Norris of Isleworth.
The interior includes a factory refurbished Baby Blake
Toilet. All wood inside and out was sanded down to bare wood and
repainted/treated by Blakes Ltd Products. Most of the original fittings
have been retained, except for the rudder, which along with the
stainless steel fittings, is completely new.
All that is required to finish the project is the Standing
rigging, Sails, and some carpentry in the cabin, and minor electric's.

There are a couple of Hillyards
on Ebay that need new loving homes.
First up is a 9 tonner (1965).
It needs new decks and coamings, but the hull and deck beams are
apparently mostly sound. She looks to be complete and original.

The other one is a 1934 6 tonner, described as basically sound, but
needing tlc.

Always a shame to see these fine boats looking so sad, but maybe there
is someone out there who is looking for a project to take on, so if you
know anyone who may be interested, then please forward them the details!
